Support for Couples

. . . marriage isn’t just about raising kids, splitting chores, and making love. It can also have a spiritual dimension that has to do with creating an inner life together – a culture rich with symbols and rituals, and an appreciation for the roles and goals that link you, that lead you to understand what it means to be a part of the family you have become.

Prepare Your Relationship for Parenting

67% of couples experience a decline in relationship satisfaction within the first three years of parenting. It’s with this awareness and my own experience of becoming a parent that I’m is excited to offer the Bringing Baby Home workshop. This is an evidence based program designed to equip parents to navigate the seismic shift in your relationship after becoming parents. Even though the couple relationship plays a vital role in a child’s development, it’s often the last thing that gets attention before baby is born. I’d love to create a space for you to prepare for this too.

Couples Therapy Assessment

Being in a committed partnership or marriage can bring with it some major challenges. While all couples experience difficulties, sometimes it can seem impossible to know where to start. If this is the case, having an outside perspective and evidence based tools is key. Kendra’s process for couples involves a 4-5 session assessment and individualized plan for each couple. Her goal is to listen well, assess relationship needs and provide some specific-to-you resources to implement in your relationship. It is possible to find a road back to connection, meaning and friendship. Let’s work together to find a way.

Pre-Marriage Counselling

Whether taking the step to move in together or beginning a life-long committed partnership, taking the time to prepare your relationship for the inevitable stressors of life together may be one of the best decisions you make. Kendra will provide you some key assessments to determine areas of strength and areas that may need extra support as you begin a new journey together. You will leave with a clearer picture of how to remain connected in friendship and how to manage conflict and create shared meaning. This exciting season of life is often overshadowed by wedding plans but planning for your marriage is a vital step in preventing future concerns.

Is this ‘Regular’ Couples Counselling?

Lots of couples therapy is an endeavour that can continue on without a clear end. Yet, most couples I have worked with want the tools and skills they need to move through difficulty & change unhelpful patterns but don’t want to be in counselling forever. This is one reason why I’ve crafted a 4-5 session process for couples that includes a thorough assessment (based mainly on the evidence-based Gottman Method Couples Therapy) of your relationship dynamics and the creation of an individualized plan specific to you.  This applies to both the couples therapy assessments and pre-marital counselling. After this assessment, I send you on your way! With the tools in hand most couples will have what they need to start making some specific changes. Let’s start moving you toward a relationship you are proud of.
